Accessibility Statement

Fulwood & Cadley Primary School is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to as many people as possible. This means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen

  • navigate most of the site using just a keyboard

  • navigate most of the site using speech recognition software

  • listen to most of the site using a screen reader (including recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • some PDF and Word documents (especially older policies and letters) are not fully accessible to screen reader software

  • some images in archived posts may lack alternative text

  • some third-party embedded content (for example, maps or video players) may not be fully accessible

  • videos may not always include captions or audio description

  • link text in older pages may not always be sufficiently descriptive when read out of context

We are working to fix these issues as part of ongoing content reviews and updates.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Fulwood & Cadley Primary School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some images don’t have appropriate alternative text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content). We are adding alt text as we review and publish new content.

  • Some links are identified by colour alone or are not descriptive enough. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.4.1 (Use of Color) and 2.4.4 (Link Purpose). We are updating link text and styles.

  • A small number of pages may have headings that are not in a logical order. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are correcting heading structure as pages are edited.

  • Some documents (PDFs/Word) are not tagged for accessibility. This fails multiple WCAG 2.2 criteria, including 1.3.1 and 1.4.3 (Contrast). We are replacing them with accessible HTML or tagged PDFs.

Disproportionate burden

  • We have many historic documents in PDF/Word format. Retrofitting all of them for full accessibility would impose a disproportionate burden. We will ensure that essential information is available in an accessible format on request and that any new or updated documents meet accessibility standards.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

  • Older PDFs and other documents published before 23 September 2018 are exempt unless they’re essential to providing our services.

  • Third-party content that we neither fund nor develop (e.g., embedded maps, external platforms) is exempt, but we aim to signpost accessible alternatives where possible.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

  • Implementing an accessibility checklist for all new content and pages

  • Training staff who update the website on creating accessible documents and posts

  • Replacing key PDFs with accessible HTML pages where practical

  • Adding captions to new videos and reviewing popular existing videos

  • Scheduling periodic accessibility audits and fixing identified issues
