SEND

At Fulwood and Cadley Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child can thrive. This SEND Information Report explains how we identify, assess, and support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), in line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015).

1. Our SEND Vision

We believe every pupil should:

  • Feel safe, valued, and included
  • Access a broad, ambitious curriculum
  • Make strong progress from their starting points
  • Develop independence, confidence, and resilience

Our approach is rooted in early identification, high‑quality teaching, and partnership with families.

2. Who to Contact

  • SENCO: Mrs S. True
    Email: assistantsenco@fulwoodcadley.lancs.sch.uk
  • SEND Link Governor: Miss J Parker

If you have any concerns about your child’s needs, please speak to the class teacher in the first instance.

3. How We Identify and Assess SEND

We identify SEND through:

  • Teacher observations and classroom assessments
  • Progress tracking
  • Speech, language and communication screening
  • Parental concerns
  • Advice from external agencies

Four broad areas of need are considered:

  1. Communication & Interaction
  2. Cognition & Learning
  3. Social, Emotional & Mental Health
  4. Sensory & Physical Needs

4. Support for Pupils with SEND

Support may include:

  • Adapted quality‑first teaching
  • Small‑group interventions
  • 1:1 support where appropriate
  • Speech and language programmes
  • Emotional well‑being support
  • Use of assistive technology
  • Adaptations to environment or resources

Where needed, we work with:

  • Specialist teachers
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Speech & Language Therapy
  • CAMHS
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Early Help services

5. The Graduated Approach

We follow the Assess → Plan → Do → Review cycle:

  • Assess the child’s needs
  • Plan personalised support
  • Do – deliver interventions
  • Review impact with parents and pupils

6. Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Some pupils require support beyond SEN Support. If so, we may work with you to request an EHCP needs assessment from the Local Authority.

7. Accessibility

Our school environment is highly accessible and includes:

  • Multiple accessible entrances
  • Wide doorways
  • Ramped access to the school field
  • Accessible toilets
  • Adapted equipment where required

8. Transition Support

We ensure smooth transitions:

  • Into EYFS
  • Between year groups
  • To secondary school
Through additional visits, transition passports, information sharing, and close work with families.

9. Supporting Well‑Being

Pupil well‑being is a central strength of our school. Support includes:

  • Nurture and pastoral provision
  • Worry boxes / worry monsters
  • Sensory and regulation strategies
  • Links with Family Support and external services

10. How We Work With Parents

We value strong relationships with parents and carers. We will:

  • Meet regularly to review progress
  • Share strategies
  • Invite you to be part of all SEND discussions
  • Signpost helpful support services
